Why Community Events are Important (and why you should attend Ignite Tampa)
Ashley RayWhy not be a part of your city, an essential component to your community? What good does it do to just dwell… day in and day out go to work come home, do your grocery shopping and have a drink or two at your local watering hole? Well, you could be a dweller, or you could be an influencer, a community member… an igniter.
Academically, the term “sense of community” means: “a feeling members have of belonging, a feeling that members matter to one another and the group, and a shared faith that member’s needs will be met through their commitment to be together".
When you have an emotional investment in the city or community which you live you are more likely to care about, and in turn invest your time and efforts in improving. This reduces crime, pollution and ethnic disparities because its members know and care about each other.
What can community engagement do for a community?
-
- Promote employment and economic growth due to the incredible amount of networks that are formed between residents
- Networks that are created through community involvements help reduce the amount of marginalization in society
- Entrepreneurial networks are the kinds that help small business thrive hence creating more jobs
- Community engagement inherently creates communities who take pride and self responsibility for what goes on in their neighborhood and its outside appearance
- It promotes more activity in local government
- It also promotes “guardianship” where community members look out for each other, therefore reducing crime in the area.
What does this have to do with Ignite?
Ignite is a networking event where residents of Tampa get to hear what some of their community members are passionate about. Maybe a presentation sparks change, and gets people talking. Maybe there is a great idea out there that needs to be heard – that will change Tampa. Maybe you meet some like-minded people, or just have a great time! Either way it’s a community event and a great way to get out there, meet some interesting people and have a better sense of community!
